The Invisible Bungalow
"A farmer who built a bungalow inside his barn to bypass planning laws has been ordered to demolish the structure" reports the >> BBC <<. "Graham Head constructed his home on the North Downs under the cover of darkness and behind fences and a wall of hay." However, "Planning officers for Mole Valley District Council were tipped off by ramblers who were concerned about the activity on the Surrey farm." With shades of Archigrams Urban-Pastoral landscape projects, Elizabeth Wrights 'Bungalow' at The Showroom, Michael Landys 'Semi Detached' at the Tate Britain, it Farmer Head is working in a rich cultural vein. He now has eight weeks to dismantle it. One can only hope that this is not the end but the beginning of a cat-and-mouse game between Head and the Planners, with bungalows secreted beneath haystacks, in cattle sheds, hidden in fields of maize, or under piles of manure.
