I think the next step is to collage-diagram these curious specimens beneath the great dome, in order to uncover the mystery of its making. And then we must encourage posts that might illuminate the page with analysis of the scaffoldings' workings.
It could be that scaffolding is the last properly vernacular building form. And it could be that, in Florence, there is an unbroken line from the Renaissance, handed down from scaffolder father to scaffolder son. But thats just idle speculation. It would certainly be an interesting study to make.
